Cookie Policy

How paperlessfin.com uses cookies and similar technologies, what each type does, and the browser controls you can use to manage them.

About this page

This Cookie Policy explains how paperlessfin.com uses cookies and similar technologies, what they do, and how you can control them. It should be read together with the Privacy Policy, which covers personal information more broadly.

The sections below follow the order a visitor usually needs them: what a cookie is, which categories this site sets, who else may set one, and where the controls live. Nothing here describes a sign-in or account system, because the site does not have one.

At a glance

  • Two categories are used: strictly necessary and analytics.
  • Non-essential cookies are only set where consent is required and given.
  • Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors.
  • Your browser settings remain the primary way to block or delete cookies.

Definitions

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information between visits, such as preferences, and they help site operators understand how pages are used.

A cookie is not a program and it cannot run on your device. It is a short record — usually a name, a value, and an expiry — that the browser stores and sends back to the same site on later requests. That is why clearing cookies can sign you out of a service, reset a saved preference, or make a page behave as though you were visiting for the first time.

Similar technologies are covered by the same rules in this policy. Local storage and session storage work in a comparable way: they keep a small amount of information in your browser so a site can function or measure use. Where this policy says cookie, it means these browser-side storage methods together.

Types of cookies used on this site

The site uses strictly necessary cookies, which are required for basic functions, and analytics cookies, which help us understand which pages are visited and how the site is used. Where any other category is used, it is described in this policy and, where required, presented for consent.

Strictly necessary

Required for page navigation, load balancing and form submission. Set by the site itself, not by advertising networks.

Analytics

Measure which pages are viewed and how long a visit lasts. Reported in aggregate; not used to build a profile of you.

Preference

Remember a choice you made on the site, such as a dismissed notice. If none is set, this policy will say so rather than assume one.

Advertising

Not used on this site. paperlessfin.com does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies of its own.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies support core functions such as page navigation and form submission. They do not track you across other websites, and they cannot be disabled through the site's cookie controls without affecting how the site works.

In practice that means one thing to remember: if you block all cookies in your browser, a page may still load, but a form you submit may not be accepted the first time, and a security check that relies on a short-lived token may fail. Turning them back on for this site restores normal behaviour.

Analytics cookies

Analytics cookies collect aggregated information about how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed and how long a visit lasts. This information is used to improve the site and is not used to identify individual visitors.

We read them as counts and trends, not as people. A report might show that a guide on receipt capture is read more than a page about month-end close, and that both are usually opened on a phone. That tells us where to spend editing time. It does not tell us who you are.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies may be set by third-party services used on the site, such as analytics providers. These providers have their own privacy and cookie policies, which govern their use of the information they collect.

Two practical points follow from that. First, a third-party cookie can usually be recognised in your browser by a domain that differs from paperlessfin.com. Second, blocking it here does not block it everywhere — the same provider may be used by other sites you visit, and their settings apply separately.

Where a provider is used, we choose services that report aggregate measurement rather than individual visitor identities. If a new provider is added, this section is updated before the change takes effect.

Managing cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them. Browser help pages explain how to do this for each browser. Blocking all cookies may affect how the site functions.

Most browsers group the same three actions under slightly different names: viewing the cookies already stored, deleting all or some of them, and setting a rule to block future ones. Private or incognito windows take a different path — they keep cookies only for the length of the session and discard them when the window closes.

If you use more than one browser or device, repeat the change in each one. Cookie settings are stored per browser, so a rule set in one does not carry over to the others.

Consent

Where required, the site asks for consent before setting non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your browser settings or by contacting us.

Withdrawing consent does not make earlier use unlawful, and it does not remove cookies that were already placed — deleting them in your browser does that. What it does is stop new non-essential cookies from being set on your next visit.

Questions we get

Changes and common questions

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the cookies used or in applicable law. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.

Do I have to accept cookies to read the site?

No. Pages load and can be read without accepting non-essential cookies. Accepting only affects whether analytics and any preference cookies are set, so declining costs you nothing but the site's ability to measure its own readership.

Can a cookie identify me by name?

A cookie stores a value, not your name. On its own it usually holds a random identifier and some settings. Identification only becomes possible when that value is combined with other information, which is why the analytics cookies here are used at the aggregate level rather than to single anyone out.

How long do cookies stay on my device?

It depends on the cookie. Session cookies disappear when you close the browser window. Persistent cookies carry an expiry date set by whoever created them and stay until that date passes or you delete them manually. Necessary cookies on this site are short-lived by design.

What happens if I block everything?

Reading continues to work. What can break is anything that needs the site to remember a state between two page loads, such as submitting a form or keeping a temporary security token. If a form fails and you have blocked all cookies, that is usually the reason.

Where does the policy sit next to your other terms?

This page covers cookies and similar browser storage only. Personal information handling sits in the Privacy Policy, and the rules for using the site sit in the Terms of Service. Where a question spans more than one of them, the more specific document applies to that question.
