What this policy covers
Six things the policy answers, in the order most people ask them. Each one links to the full clause below.
Information we collect
There are two ways information reaches us, and they are handled differently.
The first is what you type. When you send a message through a contact form, we receive the name and email address you enter along with the content of your message. Nothing else is required to write to us. If you would rather not use the form, the phone number and email address in the contact section work the same way.
The second is what the site records on its own. Like most websites, our servers keep standard request logs that include browser type, device type, the pages you visited, and the approximate time of the visit. We also use analytics tools to understand which pages are read and which are skipped. This technical information is not used to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with form submissions.
Most people write to us once, about one document
Questions about a single receipt, a misfiled invoice, or a page that needs correcting make up the bulk of what arrives through the contact form. Those messages need only a name and a reply address.
How information is used
Everything we hold serves one of four purposes. If a piece of information does not fit one of them, we do not keep it.
Answering you
Your message and reply address are used to write back. If the exchange continues, the thread stays together so nobody has to repeat context.
Correcting the guides
When a reader points out that a workflow description is out of date or a step is missing, we record the correction and revise the page it applies to.
Keeping records
A record of correspondence lets us follow up on a topic suggestion months later without asking you to resend it.
Running the site
Technical logs show which pages load slowly or break on certain devices, so those problems can be found and fixed.
Legal basis and consent
Different rules apply depending on where you are reading from and why the information reached us.
Where consent is required, we rely on the consent you give when you submit a form. You can withdraw that consent for future communications at any time by writing to the address in the contact section. Withdrawing does not affect correspondence already answered.
Where processing is necessary to operate the site or to respond to a request you made, we rely on that necessity rather than on consent. Technical logs, for example, exist because a server has to record a request in order to serve a page at all.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not build advertising profiles from it.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses cookies and similar technologies as described in the Cookie Policy. Cookies here do two jobs: they let the site remember basic preferences between pages, and they let analytics tools count visits without identifying individual readers.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, or clear what is already stored. Disabling certain cookies may affect how the site functions — for example, a preference may reset each time you return.
Sharing of information
We do not sell personal information. We do not rent it, trade it, or hand it to advertising networks. There are only two situations in which information leaves our hands.
The first is service providers that help run the site — hosting and analytics providers, for example. They receive only what is needed for that specific job, and they are not permitted to use it for anything else. The second is where the law requires disclosure, such as a valid legal request that we are obliged to answer.
If a correction you send us becomes part of a revised guide, the correction is reflected in the page text. Your name and email address are not published.
Correspondence is held for the record, not published
Data retention
Two kinds of information, two different clocks.
Contact form submissions
Kept for as long as needed to answer you and to hold a record of corrections and topic suggestions that came out of the exchange.
As long as the record is useful
Server and analytics logs
Retained for a limited period, then deleted or aggregated into counts that no longer identify a single visit.
Short term, then aggregated
Correction records
A note of which guide changed and when stays with the guide, so later readers can see that a description was revised.
Kept with the guide
If you would like a message deleted before that, ask. We will confirm what was removed, or explain why a record has to stay.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
To make a request, contact us using the details below. Tell us which right you are exercising and enough about the original message for us to find it. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
How a request is handled
-
Send the request
Write to [email protected] or call +1-212-550-6882 during business hours. A plain description of what you want is enough.
-
We locate the record
We search correspondence and logs for information that matches. If nothing is found, we say so rather than leaving the request open.
-
We confirm the outcome
You receive confirmation of what was provided, corrected, or deleted — or a clear reason why a record cannot be changed.
Children's privacy
The site is intended for business and professional audiences and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to [email protected] and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the site or in applicable law. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date at the top. If a change affects how information is used, the revised text will say so plainly rather than only moving the date.

Questions about your information go to the same desk
Access requests, corrections, deletion, and general questions about this policy all reach the same place. If you are not sure which one applies, describe the situation and we will route it.
